Team Expectations

Dorados Swimmers

  • 2 training practices per week (minimum ☺)

  • 2 meets/competitions per year (minimum, including home meet)

  • Provincials (NT Explosion … is the last championship style meet of the year)

  • Swim-A-Thon Fundraiser

Expectations and rules on deck for everyone are as follows:

  1. Be respectful and courteous to one another at all times.

  2. Foul language, disruptive behaviour, name calling, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated, and children will be asked to leave the deck immediately.

  3. Effort is required. Children can fluctuate daily in effort and interest, that’s normal. Persistent disinterest may require a parental meeting.

  4. Seniors swimmers are expected to help with set-up and take-down, gear clean-up. i.e. flags, fins, buoys, boards.

Dorados Families

The Cape Breton Dorados Swim Team board of directors works hard to provide a top quality program for the swimmers throughout the swim season. We attempt to minimize fundraising and time commitment obligations for our athletes’ families. Required events are:

  1. Nova Tech Meet # 2  (one day)

  2. AA Age Group Meet #3  (two days)

  3. Swim-A-Thon Fundraiser  (one day)

We also organize 2 parties per year;

  1. Holiday party with family scavenger hunt and pot luck located at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.

  2. Year End party with annual awards, Mira Provincial Park.

We appreciate some volunteer assistance for these events, but require one family member to participate in a volunteer capacity or on-deck official role during our host meets.

Meetings

We try to call a parents meeting as the season starts and usually before the major events. They usually happen during practice in the Kiwanis Room, so the majority of parents can come. For this season, our business nights will be Thursdays… Everything from swim suits, PoD meetings, payments and fees should be handled on Thursdays.

Goals for the Competition Season

  • To have as many children as possible leave with a positive experience, and become stronger swimmers.

  • To collect as many ribbons and medals as we can! Personal best (PB) ribbons are awarded after every meet, medals when Nova Tech standard times are reached. Rewards and positive reinforcement are strong motivators and one key to consistent efforts.
